Brazil: President of the construction union was murdered in Salto

The President of the workers' construction union, Sindicato dos Trabalhadores da Construção Civil de Salto (CONTICOM CUT Brasil), Aparecido Galvão (China), was shot in the head in Salto, 80 km from São Paulo.

According to Gilmar Santinon, Bro. Galvão was persecuted by two cars driving very fast. The cars pulled up alongside and attackers opened fire. That same day, Galvaõ had taken photos of workers on a building site which violates the minimum health and safety standards.

Gilmar said “China was an honest and sincere worker who had received several threats from contractors. Threats are frequent here.“

The BWI is very concerned about the persecution of trade unionists in the country. The International extends its solidarity to Gavão's family and trade union friends.

Galvão was 56 years old. He had a wife and two children.
