Safe and decent work for building workers says Ukrainian Workers UnionOn Workers Memorial Day 2010, Ukrainian Building Workers Union called a press conference on working conditions of builders at Eurocup-2012 construction sites.
Representatives of Ukrainian and Polish Building Workers Unions made a statement and answered questions from journalists.
Chairman of Ukrainian Building Workers Union said: “Fatal accidents and work-related traumas exist because lack of control at working conditions from contractors’ side. 4 workers died only at Eurocup-2012 construction sites for the last two years”.
The representative of Polish Building Workers Union Budowlani told about fatal accidents at construction of new stadium in Warsaw where 2 workers died in the end of 2009.
Ukrainian Building Workers Union called Ukrainian State committee on health and safety to announce publicly the results of workers deaths investigation in all accidents and present measures to avoid the same in future.
Construction and Building Materials Industry Workers’ Union of Ukraine is one common branch union organisation which unites 200,000 of building workers in construction, cement, metal, building materials and glass producing, building machinery companies, architect bureaus, vocational schools students and teachers in all regions of Ukraine.
Ukraine are co-hosting the final round with Poland from 8 June to 1 July 2012. It will be the third time that the final tournament is jointly hosted by two countries – after Belgium/Netherlands in 2000 and Austria/Switzerland in 2008. Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw are the four Polish host cities for the 2012 tournament.
