"Everyone in the BWI will be shocked and saddened by the untimely passing last Sunday of our dear colleague and friend Bernd Eisenbach. During Bernd's lifetime of work dedicated to Trade Union activity in the building sector, he worked for the IFBWW in the early 1980s, and continued to be active in the IFBWW Health and Safety Committee, and was an extremely committed activist in the BWI's health and safety campaigns, in particular on the hazards of asbestos. He worked with the EFBWW on developing programmes on asbestos and a number of health and safety issues, as well as developing skills training and social dialogue with the European employers FIEC.
Bernd was a generous, open minded and inclusive colleague, who was always ready to have a thorough and open discussion on the issues affecting the lives of workers in the building trades. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him."
