CTF and forestry unions in Chile decided to participate in the National Mobilization, on July 5th, for a national minimum salary of USD 500. They were gathered in the city of Valdivia in the 7th National Meeting of Forestry Sector Trade Unions, which resulted in a document expressing the concerns of the sector about social rights. In addition, the unions not only supported the proposal of the national center CUT for a national base salary, but also they claim for a base salary of US$ 600 for the forestry sector. They observe “Forests industries rank second in exportation in the country”.
At the document, the unions point out that the Forestry system in Chile is exhausted and there is a need of reformulation based on the concept of sustainability. They also express their concern about the lack of transparency of the FSC certification system where there are certified companies that are making use of anti-union practices. Finally, they express the intention to develop a unified agenda of the sector and submit it to the major holdings in the country.
