Solidarity campaign Serbia: ACT NOW ! NO amendments to Labour Law

BWI affiliates in Serbia report that the Serbian Government is willing to amend the existing Labour Law which is now almost completely harmonized with the European Union regulations. These amendements will have serious impacts on workers' rights. So ACT NOW and sign BWI campaign!

The Serbian trade unions indicate that these amendments include more particularly severance pay, compensation for sick leave and paid leave. They will also hinder the position of trade union representatives and the right to collective bargaining, and salaries and working hours will no longer need to be stipulated in the labour contract.

For the Serbian unions, the Government's objective consists in reducing salaries instead of raising the quality of work and workers' motivation. This will push workers into indecent life and working conditions.

Serbia's Minister of Economy Saša Radulović said he believes amendments to the Labour Law will enter parliamentary procedure in January 2014.

In view of the above, the Serbian unions are requesting your support without delay. So ACT NOW!

BWI Action: Prime Minister Mr. Ivica Dačić Government of the Republic of Serbia Dear Prime Minister, I am appalled to hear that the Serbian Government is willing to amend the existing Labour Law. The Serbian trade unions reported to the Building and Wood Workers' International, BWI, that these amendments include more particularly severance pay, compensation for sick leave and paid leave. I strongly also protest against the fact that these amendments will also hinder the position of trade union representatives and the right to collective bargaining, and salaries and working hours will no longer need to be stipulated in the labour contract. I am looking forward to your swift action as these amendments will only push workers into indecent working conditions. Sincerely,
