BWI 2020 Global Sports Conference
We are pleased to invite you to the BWI 2020 Global Sports Conference which will focus on the FIFA World Cup in 2022 in the State of Qatar. It shall be convened by BWI in cooperation with our institutional partners in Qatar -- the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and our various solidarity support partners.
Given the restrictions due to the pandemic, this conference shall be mainly conducted virtually. However, selected migrant community leaders, workers’ representatives and other participants shall be invited to gather based on the health protocols in an appropriate venue in Qatar.
The objectives of the conference are as follows:
• BWI and SC, informed by inputs from partners and stakeholders, are able to jointly assess their partnership and discuss directions and priorities leading to the 2022 World Cup and beyond;
• BWI, together with other stakeholders, is able to engage the representatives of Qatar’s Ministry of Labour regarding challenges in the implementation of the ongoing labour reform measures being undertaken in the State of Qatar;
• BWI and its partners in Qatar are able to share information and insights with regard to promoting workers’ voice and safety, and
• BWI is able to discuss the proposal to institutionalize the Community Leaders Forum with migrant community leaders and elected Workers Representatives.
Interpretation available in English, French and Hindi. The BWI will look into possibilities to provide additional languages if needed. The webinar will take place virtually on Zoom.
