Belgium: 25,000 companies and 250,000 workers want OHS as a right

BWI's Belgian affiliates ACV- BiE and FGTBB secured the commitment of Belgium's employers' association through a joint declaration recognising the importance of workplace health and safety, and the need for the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to declare it as a fundamental right of all workers.

The declaration covers 25,000 companies and more than 250,000 workers.

BWI said that the declaration-signing is a major feature of its commemoration this year of the International Workers’ Memorial Day in tandem with the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW). It said that by declaring workplace health and safety as a right, it will ensure that there is increased accountability on the part of governments and employers to international labour standards on health and safety.
