Balkans: Women workers unite for gender equality and just transition
On 17-19 March, the Sub-regional Women`s Conference for Balkan Countries took place in North Macedonia bringing together over 70 women trade unionists from North Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, as well as women leaders representing BWI and the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) from the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden.
The event was organised under the theme “Equal, United, Strong.” It discussed sub-regional perspectives on women workers’ fight for gender equality with special focus on just transition and equal rights.
“I would like to thank our sisters from North Macedonia for organizing this conference. The level of participation and involvement demonstrated the high level of commitment of women in the region to promote gender equality issues in the trade union agenda. I also think that it is a wonderful idea to invite women from other European countries. This gave us a chance to build a stronger network amongst women trade unionists in Europe,” said Sweden’s Josefine Krantz, BWI European Regional Women Committee Chairperson.
