Brazil: workers' federation trains OHS brigadistas
The Federation of Workers in the Construction and Furniture Industries of the State of Paraná (FETRACONSPAR), in partnership with BWI, held its 2nd seminar on the basics of occupational health and safety in the construction and furniture industries last 27 and 28 of September.
The seminar was attended by 46 trade union leaders and workers affiliated to FETRACONSPAR unions. The participants were trained to become part of the OHS brigades to help ensure the full implementation of health and safety provisions in collective labor agreements and conventions, and increase the number of workers affiliated to unions.
The participants analysed and studied regulatory standards (NR) relevant to the construction and furniture industries and the effectiveness of OHS clauses in the CBAs and conventions covering construction and furniture workers.
BWI Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean Nilton Freitas lauded FETRACONSPAR for leading the initiative. “BWI welcomes this new training program for OHS brigades in Brazil as it is a clear example of how the trade union movement can achieve effective changes in the lives of workers and ensure safe and healthy workplaces.”
