he Africa Chinese MNCs Network members met on 27 -28 November 2017 to discuss achievements in organizing Chinese MNCs, share experiences and lessons learnt in the four year period and put a way forward that will inform new strategies up to 2021. Other regions such as Europe and Asia shared experience on how they are organising and engaging Chinese companies.
Africa and Middle East Regional Vice-President Piet Matosa and Bastian Schulz Director of FES TUCC for Sub-Sahara Africa opened the meeting.
Also present were different partners including UtoU-SBTF, SASK-Finland and 3F. The highlights included organised membership, signed collective bargaining agreements. By October 2017, unions had organised a total of 43,000 members in 153 Chinese MNCs and signed more than 60 agreements. Compared to 2016 figures, there has been an increase in total membership and companies where these unions are organising. A strategy on future includes organising, negotiating and influencing policy.
