The BWI joins the International community in condemning the killing of at least 58 and Palestinian civilians by Israeli troops near the Gaza border, preceding the opening of the United States embassy in Jerusalem. In addition, over 1,200 people were injured.
The Palestinian death toll was the highest number of casualties since the 2014 conflict, according to news reports.
The BWI support the calls by international institutions including the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and many national governments calling for constructive dialogue to address the conflict in the region.
One of the necessary measures to create stability in the region would be to implement the UN 2016 resolution demanding an end to Israeli settlement building on land that Palestinians want for an independent state. BWI calls for long-term measures to be put in place to prevent future acts of violence against peaceful demonstrators.
