BWI-MENA welcomes new projects coordinator

BWI trade union affiliates in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), under the leadership of Abdel Monem Al Gamal, President of AFRECO and GTUBWW in Egypt, warmly welcomed Asma Guitouni, the region’s new projects coordinator and GCC, during a virtual meeting last 18 January.

“We are happy to have you among us, as this will strengthen the regional team and the entire work of BWI in Africa and Middle East. Our integration process will allow you to understand our organisation, as well as our various activities, and to quickly become familiar with your assignments,” said Crecentia Mofokeng, BWI Regional Representative, in her welcome address on behalf of the BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson.

Affiliates that attended the online meeting have expressed their desire to have a new coordinator in the sub-region, almost a year after the position has been vacated, amidst many challenges facing the region, including the situation in Palestine. BWI’s regional staff have expressed their readiness to provide Guitouni the necessary assistance and support for her to excel in her new assignment.

Guitouni has deep experience working with trade unions in the region for many years. She said that she is excited to contribute more of her skills and knowledge to make BWI’s work in the region more vibrant along the principles of democratic and gender-fair trade unionism, labour rights and welfare, workplace health and safety, and climate justice.
