The BWI condemns the terror attack in Istanbul, Turkey, that has left 36 people dead and more than 140 people injured on Tuesday 28 June 2016. The deadly explosions and gunfire happened at the entrance of Istanbul Ataturk Airport international terminal in the evening. Government officials stated that the explosions were a terrorist attack, carried out by three attackers; however, no group has so far claimed responsibility.
“We would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in brutal attacks at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Many are currently receiving treatment for their injuries, and we wish them a swift recovery," stated Ambet Yuson, General Secretary of BWI.
He continued, "At this very difficult time, we would like to extend our support and solidarity to our affiliates and colleagues in Turkey. Several recent terrorist attacks have occurred in Ankara and Istanbul, and hundreds of people have lost their lives as a result of of these cruel actions. We hope this will be the last time we witness such an attack, not just in Turkey but all around the world."
