BWI supports bricklayers on strike in Switzerland

17 October 2018 04:34

Bricklayers are calling this week for general strike actions around Switzerland to protest against the Swiss federation employers’ attitude seeking to dismantle the national collective agreement. On 17 October 2018, BWI staff protested on the streets with UNIA and SYNA members in Geneva to extend support and solidarity.

Yesterday, 3000 bricklayers took the streets in the Italian part of Switzerland.

A demonstration already gathered 18.000 members in June in Zurich. The Swiss federation of employers had accepted to restart negotiating with the union demanding retirement at 60 years of age and an increase in wages.

Workers continue to call for an end to limited working hours, decreased wages, rise in temporary and precarious jobs and social dumping.
