In Memoriam: David Tuhanuku

With profound sadness, the Building and Wood Workers' International (BWI) bids farewell to one of our esteemed trade union leaders, David Tuhanuku. On 13 February 2024, David’s passing left an irreplaceable void in our hearts and in the labor movement.

For two decades, David served as a beacon of strength and solidarity as the President of the Solomon Islands Council of Trade Unions (SICTU) and the Workers Union of Solomon Islands (WUSI). His dedication to the cause of workers' rights was unwavering, his leadership exemplary, and his impact far-reaching.

David's legacy transcends borders; his tireless advocacy and unwavering commitment to justice resonated not only within the Solomon Islands but also globally. As part of BWI, David commanded respect and admiration, helping forge alliances and advancing workers’ rights.

We send our deepest condolences to David’s family: his beloved wife Rebecca and their children Allister, Gila, Elijah, Humphrey, and James Jr., and to his trade union comrades in the Solomon Islands. In honoring David's memory, let us recommit ourselves to the cause for which he so passionately fought. Let us stand united in solidarity, continuing the struggle for a better future for all workers, just as David did throughout his life.
