To avoid a general strike, the Israeli trade union Histadrut and the government has finally reached an agreement on better health and safety at workplaces, particularly on construction sites.

The new agreement includes many new regulations on areas such as scaffolding and work on high altitudes, the introduction of safety assistants and stricter control mechanisms.

"A historic move that will avoid many fatal accidents at work and prevent injury and death of dozens of workers every year," said Histadrut Chairman Avi Nissenkorn about the new agreement.
