KAHUTINDO National Congress calls for Climate Justice

Over 200 delegates at the 7th National Congress of the Indonesian Forestry and Allied Workers Union (KAHUTINDO) held in Surabaya-Indonesia on 7-9 August 2024, called for climate justice to secure workers and trade union rights and promote sustainable jobs in the mitigation of climate change and forest management, amplifying the Solidarity Message conveyed by Ambet Yuson, BWI General Secretary, through the video in the Congress Opening. 

Also in the Congress event, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Director General Kim Carstensen addressed the important role of Kahutindo and forest unions in the sertification and remediation process in Indonesia and globally. 

BWI Asia Pacific Regional Representative Apolinar Tolentino expressed that KAHUTINDO has demonstrated the importance of building alliances in order to attain policies and programmes that are important for trade unions to strive. 

“As Indonesia is very strategic country for BWI, we are fully confident that KAHUTINDO will continue its leadership role in ensuring that workers and trade union rights are freely exercised as we are experiencing attacks against trade union movement from unscrupulous employers and most often in cohorts with rogue governments.”

The Congress has re-elected bro Khoirul Anam as President for another five year term.
