On Tuesday 1,200 members of the Korean Construction Workers’ Union held a rally in front of the South Gyeonggi Police Office against unjustifiable investigations of the union.
The police have summoned dozens of union leaders to examine if they have illegally requested construction companies to offer them with paid time-off for union activities. The union’s spokesperson said: “The police are questioning the union’s normal activities in an unjust attempt to emasculate the union, which represents a growing number of construction workers.”
After the rally, the union laid a complaint before the police against construction companies on the charges of delaying the payment of workers’ wages. Construction workers in Korea usually get paid pay the wages about 1 to 1.5 months later than they are supposed to.
