Delegates of the Latvian Building Sector Trade Union LBNA (previously the Latvian Builders Union)
The Latvian Builders Union adopted a new name and set goal to cover more workers with collective agreements at their 7th Congress, that took place on the 18th of May in the Latvian capital Riga.
“For last two years our union has negotiated on generally binding collective agreement in the construction sector. On the 10th of May we signed the Latvian building sector collective agreement. Three employer organizations and 144 different employers have signed it, which is 38 per cent of the whole sector. In next two-month the aim is to reach 50 per cent, so that the terms of agreement would be overlay binding to everyone in the sector. If the representation will be reached the generally binding collective agreement will set a minimum wage in Latvian building sector of 780 euro per month, 4,67 euro per hour,” said Martins Dunkis who was elected as Vice president of the Union.
The delegates also decided to change the name from the Latvian Builders union (LBA) to the Latvian Building Sector Trade Union (LBNA) and adopt a new logo.
“By Changing the union’s name and leadership we stay loyal to the same goals and ideals we had 28 years ago. We will continue to work on sectoral and national level, on training our members and attracting new ones to join. Continue work on educating society on trade unionism,” said the elected president Leva Gretere. The Board has now five members of which three are women.
