BWI and ILO to conduct COVID-19 online training conferences

The BWI Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean together with the Regional Office of the International Labor Organization (ILO) are planning to hold online training conferences and meetings for Latin American trade union leaders. The objective is to train trade union leaders on how to respond to the COVID-19 crisis from a “decent work” perspective.

The initiative is reportedly very much appreciated by BWI affiliates in the region, many of whom in the past few weeks have mobilised manpower and resources to ensure workers’ health, safety and livelihood.

The ILO Regional Office, based in Lima, will facilitate the virtual online conferences. Invitations will be sent by the ILO to BWI statutory leaders in the region.

"This timely initiative will allow us to craft better strategies and measures to address the health crisis,” said Nilton Freitas, BWI Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, in his note to members of the statutory bodies who want to register for the online conferences.

BWI affiliates in the region who would like to participate in the online conferences can send their requests directly to the ILO Regional Office or email them at icm@bwint.org.
