Implementation plan in place for BWI policy on discrimination and harassment

 

True to its commitment to consistently provide an environment free of discrimination and harassment, BWI released its expanded policy against harassment and discrimination which covers a whole range of discrimination and harassment acts, as well as other unacceptable behaviour based on nationality, race or skin colour, sex, age, pregnancy, marital or relationship status, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious belief and political affiliation. Read more...

BWI released its 2019 Results and 2020-2021 Actions on its seven (7) identified convergences on rights for all, safe work, youth in unions, gender equality, sustainable industries, fair games and organised value chains.

BWI and the Pakistan Federation of Building and Wood Workers (PFBWW) filed a joint complaint to the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on 6 July citing gross violation of workers’ rights at the IFC-supported Karot Hydropower Project in Pakistan. 250 young unionists attended and brought youthful energy to a webinar organised by BWI, together with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Education International (EI), The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations (IUF), International Transport workers’ Federation (ITF), IndustriAll, Public Services International (PSI) and UNI on 6 July. Titled “COVID-19: Amplifying youth voices,” the webinar is the first in a series of webinars for young trade unionists.

The BWI-affiliated FNV Bouwen and Wonen reported that it reached an agreement with construction industry employers in their collective bargaining negotiations. If approved by its members and workers in the construction sector, a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is expected to take effect on 1 January 2021. Read more...
