Peru: Artesco-Staedtler workers denounce anti-union practices

 

Workers employed at the ARTESCO in Peru, a subsidiary of Staedtler Germany, held a protest action last week in front of their company's facilities due to the breakdown of collective bargaining negotiations, suspension of union members during the COVID-19 lockdown and other anti-union practices. “Gender-based Violence is being considered a “second pandemic” in the region.” This was the statement issued by Fabiana Santos, President of BWI’s Regional Women’s Committee (RWC) in the Latin America and Caribbean region. Poland is the latest country visited by BWI and its “IKEA Workers’ Caravan of Stories,” a campaign to enable IKEA workers in different countries to share with one another their working lives and experiences. In an industrial factory in Zbaszynek, 3,400 workers produce furniture for IKEA. The said workers are organised by two trade unions, Budowlani and Solidarnosc, with the latter also doing organising work among IKEA retail workers. Read more...

Twenty-nine (29) workers of the Sumsel 1 PLTU, all members of the SERBUK PT GPEC have returned to work after they were sent home after their company stopped its operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
