Russian union adopts resolution on healthy and safe workplaces
The BWI-affiliated Russian Timber Workers Union (RTWU) held the second phase of its 7th Congress last 23-24 April. The union adopted a resolution expressing its commitment to support the call to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to recognise healthy and safe workplaces as a fundamental right.
RTWU said that it has already started to talk to companies and employers’ groups that can be convinced to sign a declaration on the importance of safe and healthy workplaces as part of BWI’s commemoration of International Workers’ Memorial Day.
In a video message, BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson said that health and safety is a top priority of trade unions. “Health and Safety is a basic human right. This month, we celebrate International Workers’ Memorial Day to demand the ILO to declare healthy and safe workplaces as a right of any worker. We recognise RTWU’s contribution to this campaign,” he said.
