The BWI affiliate Histadrut Construction and Allied Industries Workers Union strengthened its international work during its 14th Congress held in Tel Aviv last 24 October. Its various Congress resolutions outlined the innovative union work that it plans to implement and the presence of 33-strong delegation of other BWI affiliates from 16 countries clearly highlighted its commitment to international cooperation and solidarity. Under the banner of “Together for Tomorrow in Solidarity and Justice” the 478 delegates of the 24th ordinary Congress of IG Metall, Germany, held on 6-9 of October 2019 in Nuremberg, Germany, re-elected Jörg Hofmann with 71 percent of votes as First Chairman. Christiane Benner was elected with 87 percent of votes as Second Chairman and Jürgen Kerner as the treasurer of IG Metall with 95 percent of votes. Ralf Kutzner, Wolfgang Lemb, Irene Schulz, and Hans-Jürgen Urban were re-elected as managing directors of IG Metall. Read more...

The Global Power Trade Union (GPTU) held its 6th Congress in Washington, D.C., United States from 6 to 9 October 2019, hosted by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, under the banner of Global Perspectives and Global Objectives. More than 70 representatives from trade unions representing workers in the electrical industry including BWI affiliates such as the Electrical Trades Union of Australia, the Danish Union of Electricians, and UNITE the Union, participated in a series of discussions with the goal of “striving to be more inclusive and complete.”
