On the 11 May 2018 the FGBB, BWI’s affiliate in Tunisia held its Congress which was supported by its national center, UGTT.
At the Congress which was attended by workers in the construction, wood, cement, and building materials, the delegates elected Al Taieb Al Bahri as its new General Secretary for a term of five years. In addition, Amal Al Mannaei made history by becoming the first woman elected to the FGBB Executive Committee.
The Congress honored the contributions of Hassen Chebil the former General secretary of the FGBB. Chebil expressed his support to the new-incoming General Secretary Al Taieb and committed to provide assistance to ensure the future growth of FGBB as well as improve the lives of workers in Tunisia.
The BWI Regional Representative for Africa and Middle East Crecentia Mofokeng congratulated Al Taieb Al Bahri stating, “The FGBB has elected a strong trade unionist to lead the FGBB. The BWI looks forward to working with him. We also recognize the enormous contributions of the Hassen Chebil in the development at FGBB, UGTT and BWI, both at the regional and global level. Hassen Chebil’s steadfast commitment and determination is an inspiration for the next generation.”
