After three years as Chair of the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), William (Bill) Street will retire from his post. Bill Street was the first ever union official to be elected as chairman for a global forest certification organisation.
"Having a experienced trade unionist in that position has been invaluable for our work and for wood and forestry workers' unions around the world. Bill Street has made an excellent work to promote decent work for forestry workers," said Ambet Yuson, General Secretary of the BWI.
The elections for a new leadership will take place during PEFC's Forest Certification week 7 - 10 December in Switzerland.
One of the new candidates for elections to the Board of Directors of the PEFC is Dieter Koenig-Woehl from Austria who has been advocating for forestry workers rights as a member of the European Works Council of Stora Enso since 1999. He is also a member of the standing committee of the European Federation of Building and Wood Workers.
"We need the voice of workers' to be represented within the PEFC and we are convinced that Dieter with his long experience is the right person for the post," said Ambet Yuson.
