On the 5th of August a 40 years old construction worker in St Petersburg was seriously injured after he fell from 4 meters height during construction work at the World Cup Stadium. The worker was taken to hospital where he later died and authorities claim to have started an investigation.
This is the third reported work place death on on World Cup-projects in St Petersburg so far after two fatal accidents last year. Further, in the middle of the last month workers at the stadium went on strike to get back their unpaid wages.
“The situation for the workers is alarming. This is a clear sign that all stakeholders need to take appropriate measures to ensure that health and safety rules properly implemented and that the rights of workers are protected," said Ambet Yuson, general secretary of the BWI.
