BWI mourns passing of Indian trade union leader Sita Ram Saini

BWI mourns the passing of Sita Ram Saini, President of the All Himachal Public Works Department and Contractual Workers Union (AHPWDIPHCWU) on 12 August 2023 in the Punjab State of India. 

Sita Ram Saini was a widely respected trade unionist who had a long history of standing up for workers’ and community rights. He was always full of warmth and affection, qualities which made him very popular with the workers. He held senior positions in the Indian National Trade Union Centre (INTUC) of the Himachal Pradesh State, the Indian National Trade Union Centre (INTUC), the Indian National Building and other Construction Workers Federation (INBCWF), and the Himachal Building and Construction Mazdoor Union. 

BWI and the Indian Affiliates Council (IAC) send their heartfelt condolences to his family, trade union comrades and friends. We join them in their time of grieving. His passing is a huge loss to the Indian trade union movement.
