Uganda becomes 32nd country to ratify ILO Convention 190

On 7 August, Ambassador Marcel Tibaleka, representing the Government of the Republic of Uganda, deposited the instrument of ratification of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention No. 190 on Violence and Harassment in the World of Work to ILO Director General Gilbert Houngbo at the ILO headquarters in Geneva. Uganda said that the landmark ratification demonstrated its strong commitment to foster a safe and inclusive work environment free from all forms of violence and harassment.

Houngbo congratulated Uganda, saying that the country becomes the 32^nd nation in the world, and the 8^th African country, to ratify the Convention. He looked forward to working closely with Uganda to comprehensively implement the Convention at the national level. 

BWI in the Africa and Middle East region welcomed the ratification, which it said was the product of the relentless efforts and campaigning of various trade unions and civil society groups, including the BWI-affiliated UBCCECAWU.
