India: Unions push for wage hikes, more regular jobs

 

The BWI-affiliated Indian National Cement Workers Federation (INCWF) and the All India Cement Employees’ Federation (AICEF), along with other leading trade union federations, submitted a “joint charter of demands” to the Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA) regarding the provisions of the next wage increase agreement (1 April 2022–31 March 2026). BWI-affiliated trade unions in Malaysia, the Asia Pacific region and other parts of the world joined hands as they filed a petition before the Malaysian National Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) calling on the institution to hold a public inquiry on the human rights violations suffered by Sabri Bin Umar, a migrant worker from Indonesia who was wrongly charged, imprisoned and caned five times by Malaysian authorities.Read more...
