During recent months, the BWI and its affiliates around the globe have shown solidarity and support to the trade unions in Ukraine, and, in particular, to the BWI affiliate, PROFBUD, in their fight against neo-liberal labour and trade union reforms, which are part of a larger anti-social package of economic and environmental changes. However, to date, there have been no positive reactions from the government and the legislative process continues to advance.
Following a meeting between representatives of the Ukrainian trade unions in Brussels on 22 January, where PROFBUD was represented, ITUC and several global trade union federations, including BWI, decided to increase efforts to convince the government to abandon these unwise and dangerous reforms by organising a global trade union solidarity action on or around 25 February. That action will overlap with a High Level ITUC-ETUC mission to the country that will take place from 25 to 27 February 2020.
To join the Global Day of Action in 25 February 2020 you are invited to do the following:
Coordinate a demonstration or action in front of the Ukrainian mission or embassy. In conjunction with this action, we have prepared a RED CARD poster.
Send a Protest letter to the Ukrainian President. The model letter which can be modified for your organization’s use can be found here.
Take pictures with the campaign poster and publish them on web sites and distribute them on social networks. The posters are found here. You can use the following hashtag #HandsOffUkraineUnions
