BWI joins the Global Deal partnership
As a part of BWIs continuous work to promote social dialogue, the global union has joined the Global Deal partnership which intends to bring together various stakeholders to promote joint solutions while still representing their different interests.
The Global Deal partnership said that effective social dialogue requires mutual respect and trust to create favourable conditions for collaboration between employers, workers, and governments. This can lead to peace in the labour market, promote competition and enhance economic stability and shared prosperity.
Through its commitment, BWI will be working together with its partners and industrial counterparts on shared objectives for inclusive growth and sustainable development and promote the Global Deal within the construction, building materials and forestry industries.
The Global Deal is a global partnership and a multi-stakeholder partnership in line with Goal 17 (“partnerships for the goals”) in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. It is also a concrete input to several of the other goals, not least goal 8 on decent work and inclusive growth and goal 10 on inequalities.
It is also a concrete input to the sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth but also other goals including SDG 10 on reducing inequality within and among countries. Social dialogue can be an effective tool for realising these goals.
