Paris: First international visit to construction sites of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games held

The Société de Livraison des Ouvrages Olympiques (SOLIDEO) and the Building and Woodworkers' International (BWI), together with its affiliated French trade union organisations, on 27 January organised the first joint international visit to the construction sites of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games located at the Athletes' Village in Saint-Denis and Saint-Ouen in Paris. The completion of the work is progressing rapidly.

SOLIDEO and BWI, in partnership with its French members, aim to work together to reduce health and safety risks for workers on the Olympic Games construction sites. The parties intend to share their experiences from other mega-sporting events and establish a constructive partnership that will encompass several visits until the work is delivered in order to leave a positive legacy for all parties.

BWI’s health and safety experts who joined the visit brought their rich experience in working with major international projects, such as the World Cup in Qatar, and the Brazil, South Africa and the London Olympic Games.

Geneviève KALINA, BWI Communication Director : “Paris will be the heart of the world in 2024. With SOLIDEO, we must set a legacy for social protection for future mega-sporting events. We are pleased with this first international visit, which we hope will pave the way for other visits in 2023 and 2024 with a real partnership on health and safety rules on all SOLIDEO sites, in accordance with the international conventions of the International Labour Organization. With these site visits, French trade unions seek to help reduce health and safety problems, particularly those related to subcontracting and the posting of workers.”

Antoine DU SOUICH, Director of Strategy and Innovation at SOLIDEO: " SOLIDEO is delighted with BWI’s visit, which is part of its ambition for exemplary projects. This is based on a constant and high-quality dialogue with the trade unions, with whom we collaborate with a daily basis, such as through the Social Charter Committee. SOLIDEO wishes to continue these exchanges for the benefit of quality prevention and enhanced safety for all workers on its sites.
