BWI welcomes 2025 with renewed commitment to workers’ rights

Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) General Secretary Ambet Yuson welcomed affiliates and allies to 2025 with a call for more solidarity and decisive action. Reflecting on the past year’s achievements, Yuson emphasised the need to sustain momentum in advancing workers’ rights, climate justice, gender equality, and workplace safety.

In 2025, BWI will focus on five key priorities under its Vamos! Strategic Plan:

  • Climate Justice: Expanding the Heat Stress campaign and amplifying the Amazon Campaign at COP 30 in Brazil.
  • Inclusive Unions: Strengthening union structures and integrating migrant workers.
  • Workplace Safety: Expanding inspection programs and launching the "Building Collapse Watch."
  • Globalised Rights: Advancing corporate accountability and International Framework Agreements.
  • Equal Future: Advocating for digital workers’ rights and increasing women and youth participation in unions.

Subsequently, BWI prepared a short video highlighting some its inspiring and innovative campaigns and various efforts in 2024 that advanced workers ’ rights, climate justice, gender equality, and safer workplaces.

As BWI celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, Yuson urged affiliates to turn solidarity into action and achieve concrete victories for trade unions and workers worldwide. “Our collective power holds the key to building a brighter, more equitable future for all,” he affirmed.

The letter closed with gratitude for the unwavering dedication and collaboration of BWI’s affiliates and allies, setting the stage for an ambitious and action-packed year in advancing workers' rights globally.
