Philippines: BWI lauds appointment of Hans Cacdac as department chief for migrant workers

In a significant gesture of solidarity and collaboration, a delegation from Building and Wood Workers International (BWI), which recently visited the Philippines for a series of construction inspections, paid a courtesy call to newly appointed Secretary Hans Cacdac of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The said visit underscored BWI's commitment to supporting Cacdac's efforts in advocating for the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers.

BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson congratulated Cacdac on his appointment, reiterating the global union’s commitment to stand alongside the government in addressing the challenges faced by migrant workers.

In response, Cacdac expressed gratitude for the unwavering support extended by BWI and welcomed their offer of cooperation. He acknowledged the crucial role played by migrant workers in contributing to the economic growth and development of both the Philippines and their host countries, emphasising the importance of establishing mechanisms that would ensure the Philippines receives returns on investments for its human resource exports.

BWI looks forward to forging stronger partnerships and collaborations with the DMW, paving the way for a more just and inclusive future for migrant workers in the Philippines and beyond.
