BWI and DGB-Bildungswerk train Amazonian unions on international labour standards
The Building and Wood Workers' International (BWI), with the cooperation of the Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund (DGB), is hosting the Amazonian Trade Union Network Workshop: International Standards and Mechanisms for Trade Union Action in Belém, Brazil, from 11 September to 15 September.
Representatives from Brazil’s Ministry of Labour, academics, employers, and trade unionists from the building and wood industries at the local and national levels from Amazon rainforest countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela are presently in attendance.
The training aims to promote social dialogue among the various activities that comprise the Amazon's timber value chain, as well as to train trade union leaders to work together with international organizations, particularly the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
