BWI mourns passing of Pusuluri Narayana Swami
It is with a heavy heart that BWI announces the passing of Pusuluri Narayana Swami, President of the Palamoori Migrant Labour Union (PMLU), on 18 July in his native State, Telangana, India. Swami died as a result of a cardiac arrest.
Swami was a dynamic and committed trade unionist who fought rigorously for migrant workers' rights within and outside India. An advocate by profession, he filed a number of public interest litigation and writ petitions on migrant workers' issues. He shall be remembered for his dedication, hard work and commitment towards the cause of workers.
BWI and the Indian Affiliates Council condole with his family and union members. They hope that they shall have the strength as they endure in their moment of grieving.
BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson paid tribute to Swami, whom he said “lived a very meaningful life." "We lost one of the most committed, selfless and tireless advocate of migrant workers. BWI sends its heartfelt condolences to his family and the PMLU."
