Video: IFA works! A worker's success story in BESIX

 
 
In 2017, the Building and Woodworkers’ International (BWI) signed an international framework agreement (IFA) with BESIX, a construction group based in Brussels, one of the world's leading international contractors according to the ENR ranking. Active since 1909, BESIX operates in Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, Africa, North America and Asia.


The IFA commits both BWI and BESIX to achieve continuous improvements in the areas of working conditions, health and safety standards at the workplace and positive democratic industrial relations and fair collective bargaining procedure with trade unions. 

Five years after the signing of the IFA, BESIX workers are reaping the benefits provided by the agreement. One of these is Ashraf, an Indian migrant worker who was employed by BESIX Construction in 1996 for Dubai's Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower.


Working for BESIX for the last 22 years, Ashraf travelled to 7 countries in the Middle East and Africa. He is currently working in the Ivory Coast. Ashraf attests to the good working conditions provided by the company guided by the IFA.
