This 30 November, world leaders will set foot in Dubai for the United Nations Global Climate Conference (COP28). In the wake of its “Heat Up Workers Rights, Not the Planet!” campaign, the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) will highlight the pressing need to protect workers’ health and safety in the global climate emergency.
To amplify our cause, BWI launched the "Heat-up Workers’ Rights, Not the Planet" campaign, urging action from affiliated unions, partners and allies at the national and global levels. This initiative emphasises the vital connection between health and safety, demanding better working conditions during extreme heat and severe weather events.
The largest tropical rainforest worldwide, the Amazon, currently faces illegal timber extraction and climate law violations, precarious work conditions, modern slavery and other human rights abuses.
