Palestinian workers hold general strike in solidarity with unemployed amid ongoing crisis
The PGFTU strike was part of the union's ongoing advocacy for workers' rights and served as a protest against the harsh conditions faced by workers within illegally-occupied Palestine. The union highlighted the significance of unity and solidarity among workers and called on the public to take a moment to remember the affected workers and communities.
"Workers' rights are human rights, and they must be respected and protected. We vehemently reject the ongoing injustices and discrimination in Palestine. We call for peace and an immediate ceasefire," said PGFTU General Secretary Shaher Saed.
The strike received support from attendees at the Cement Network of the Building and Wood Workers' International (BWI) meeting in Amman, Jordan. During the meeting, participants suspended activities for 15 minutes in solidarity with Palestinian workers and people, reaffirming the necessity of collective efforts to achieve Palestine’s independence.
Shaher Saed continued, "Our voice will be stronger when we unite. Together, we will continue to fight for the rights of Palestinian workers today and always, until decent work is a reality for all."
