Three voices, one vision: BWI’s champions for the FSC International Board

Published on 1 July 2025

The Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) is proud to throw its full support behind three outstanding candidates for the FSC International Board: Rulita Wijayaningdyah from Indonesia, Mark Ofori Asante from Ghana, and Bruno Bothua from France. Each of them carries not just the voice of workers but aspirations and deliverable actions for indigenous people and their communities, small farmers and entrepreneurs, environmental defenders, and a bold vision for an FSC that leads with integrity, equity, and impact.

Rulita Wijayaningdyah, General Secretary of KAHUTINDO and former Chair of the FSC Board, is no stranger to the global stage. With over two decades of experience as a trade unionist, mediator, and sustainability advocate, Rulita is known for her ability to bring people together. Her leadership blends grassroots wisdom with international policy know-how, always putting workers’ rights and community voices front and center.

Representing the Global South is Mark Ofori Asante, General Secretary of the Timber and Woodworkers Union of TUC Ghana. Mark is a visionary leader who sees FSC as more than a certification system, it’s a platform for justice and empowerment. Whether he’s leading afforestation projects or championing local knowledge and fair benefit-sharing, Mark brings passion, innovation, and a much-needed Southern perspective to the table.

From Europe, Bruno Bothua brings decades of experience and deep commitment to worker dignity. A skilled cabinetmaker turned trade union leader, Bruno heads the Wood and Forestry Standing Committee of the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW). His mission is clear: an FSC grounded in rights-based standards, strong collective bargaining, and genuine respect for indigenous communities. Bruno’s strategic insight and heartfelt leadership make him a steady, principled voice for change.

Together, Rulita, Mark, and Bruno represent more than just individual expertise, they represent a united, global labour movement pushing for forest governance that works for everyone. By voting for them, we strengthen FSC’s promise: to be a force for justice, climate action, and democracy in every forest and every community.

Let’s build that future. Support BWI’s candidates.
