BWI on the labour situation in Bolivia

The Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) expressed its deep concern over the worsening economic and labour situation in Bolivia and its growing impact on the living conditions of workers and their families. In a statement of solidarity with the General Confederation of Factory Workers of Bolivia (CGTFB), a BWI affiliate, the global union federation warned that rising transportation costs, sustained inflation, cuts in state subsidies, increasing prices of basic goods and fuel, and restrictions on access to foreign currency are severely eroding workers’ purchasing power and creating a critical social and economic situation.

BWI underscored that the demands raised by workers’ organisations in Bolivia must be heard and addressed while fully respecting freedom of association, collective bargaining, the right to organise, and social mobilisation, which are internationally recognised fundamental rights.
