100 union wins: Celebrating the power of trade union action in Pan-Europe

BWI affiliates in four Pan-European countries - Georgia, Latvia, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan - have launched the campaign “100 Victories We Achieved Together with Trade Unions”. The initiative brings together 100 real-life stories showcasing workers and trade unions who have successfully defended their rights, overcome challenges and achieved meaningful change through collective action.

Trade union victories come in many forms. Some involve major breakthroughs in collective bargaining, improvements in occupational safety and health, winning pay rises or the protection of fundamental workers' rights. Others may appear smaller but are equally important to the workers concerned. Recovering unpaid wages, preventing unfair dismissals, securing protective equipment or ensuring that employers respect collective agreements.

At the Kant Cement Plant in Kyrgyzstan, workers did both. Women cleaners who had been denied basic equipment for months came together in their union to win the equipment they needed and also went on to win a 50 per cent pay rise.

What connects all these victories is the power of workers acting together. Behind every success are workers who refused to face injustice alone, colleagues who stood in solidarity, and trade unions that organised, negotiated and took action to make change possible.

Through this campaign, BWI affiliates aim to make trade union achievements more visible, recognise the efforts of workers and their unions, and demonstrate the concrete value of trade union membership and collective action.

The campaign also seeks to inspire workers and trade unions across borders, showing that successful organising experiences and strategies can be shared, adapted and multiplied. By bringing together 100 victories from four countries, the initiative will highlight how solidarity and collective action deliver tangible results for workers, regardless of their country, sector or workplace.

BWI invites trade unions, workers and supporters to follow the campaign, share the stories and contribute their own examples of successful collective action.

Whether a victory is big or small, local or national, each story sends a powerful message: when workers organise and stand together, they can achieve change.
