The Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) mourns the passing of Comrade Alimuddin Ansari, General Secretary of the Hind Khet Mazdoor Panchayat (HKMP), on 18 September 2026 at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest on 19 September in his native village in Bihar.

Alimuddin Ansari was a committed trade unionist who dedicated his life to workers and rural labouring communities. He was a respected voice among agricultural and construction workers and remained deeply connected to workers at the grassroots. His work towards the elimination of child labour was particularly noteworthy. His association with the international trade union movement, including the BWI, reflected his strong belief in solidarity across sectors and borders.

BWI extends its deepest condolences to Alimuddin Ansari’s family, friends, and all HKMP office-bearers and members. His lifelong commitment to workers, grassroots trade unionism, and strengthening workers’ collective voice and solidarity will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
